I keep reading the main thing for neurotransmitter production is amino acids. But then I read if you are low in certain vitamins and minerals you can be prone to low levels of certain neurotransmitters? How so, do vits/mins create certain amino acids, or do they work together for the synthesis of neurotransmitters? Please explain the mechanics..
A simplified version is that the amino acids are building blocks for the neuotransmitters. But the conversion of the amino acids in to neurotransmitters requires methylation. And the B vitamins B6 and B12 arerequired for the production of the methyl donor SAMe, used to form neurotransmitters among other things.
