Memories of
"kook boxes". If Im remembering correctly the name came from their sound. In those days we would ride anything, "hey mr lifeguard can I borrow your 15 ft paddle board"
1963, hmm
Same time I was buying my first board, an 8'6" , 20 pounds. $30.00, a lot to me at the time. No one wanted it. It was too short, too light. ( crowd mentality, sheesh)
A year later I moved up to a 9' 6" , 30 pounder. The big time.
funny tho when I had that shorter board, it was sure easy to handle, wish id kept it, what a collectors item.
Like clothing choice styles being reborn, if Id kept that stick in five or so years it wouldve been "in", again.
oh well, funny how things cycle. big boards are certianly popular again. ( especially for us old guys who work to stave off heart attack whenever we go out)
