ALBENDAZOLE: Pros & Cons of Taking 1-Week Rest Break Between Cycles

Hi 133949 ~

Since you've taken albendazole for such a short period of time, you'd pose very little chance of liver impairment or parasite drug-resistance by not taking a 1-week rest break in your albendazole treatment.

For severe hyperinfections, albendazole can be taken safely for up to 28 days without a break ~ as long as the liver is very healthy & not already weakened or impaired by other medical conditions or parasite infections.  During long-term treatment, it's best to have liver enzymes checked periodically for any changes.

I added that warning in protocols about resting between cycles of albendazole because some people are unknowingly co-infected with other parasites that have already adversely affected their liver.  Or they may have recently taken herbal remedies or other parasite meds in high doses or for long periods that may have overtaxed the liver.

If you're not experiencing any discomfort in your liver (upper right quadrant) & your stools are a firm, dark brown color, & regular, then you're secreting sufficient bile & your liver is functioning properly.  If you have loose, very soft, yellow or tan-colored stools, or your right side aches, your liver is weak & you need to rest & recover before resuming albendazole.

The only other risk by not taking a rest break is temporary hair loss (alopecia).  Again, the chance of that occurring depends on the status of the liver, as noted above.

Hope this info helps you decide how to proceed!

Good luck & keep us posted on your progress.

Cheers ~~ ICU
