Re: We need words of encouragement, and most importantly, advice
First, let me commend you on reporting this to the authorities. He probably thought he'd get away with it and may have other victims who never pressed charges.
It's totally crappy the way your girlfriend's friend has treated her. I would wonder where this girl's scruples are and wonder if she's minimizing this because no rape actually occurred. I've heard of families protecting molesters and objecting to keeping the molesters from family gatherings where there will be children. I heard one women call in to a talk show that her mother wouldn't keep her uncle from attending even though he was a molester because "he'd never acted that way around her". It's horrifying that a grandmother wouldn't be moved to protect her own grandchildren.
Your girlfriend's childhood girlfriend sounds like she has misplaced morals, ethics, priorities and frankly was not a good friend.
This young woman has shown that she is not of good character and in my opinion this lack of support and abandonment would mean the end of the friendship to me. A friend has your back, a friend doesn't abandon you.
