These cars are becoming a lot more popular here in Aus, particularly in the cities, but, as is happening in your own country, the oil companies and the governments that feed off them, are making it very difficult. I do think that this will change, its a simple matter of supply and demand. The more people demand these vehicles, the more car manufacturers will want to supply that demand.

Its all about money, as most things are, but I am optimistic.
