Yep, I know what you mean, the government in Australia also seems to be stonewalling the introduction of electric cars, using red tape to do so. Trying to make electric cars that will be used in towns and cities, conform to the same standards that conventional cars do, for highway driving etc. It is obvious what they are doing. Also making import duty prohibitive, so that conventional cars are soooo much cheaper to buy.
I do think however that if people keep pushing for these cars, the government will change this, particularly if people are threatening to make it an election issue. This is what has happened with our recent elections. People have made it very clear to both major parties, that they want action on climate change.
