Re: is fasting on & off a good idea? breaking fast w/fruit for a day-to promote regularity(cleansing colon)

- if you're not eating anything solid, of course you wont have any solid waste - where would it come from? You obviously can't anticipate the same gastro-intestinal effects of a high fiber diet with that of a low fiber diet.

- stop using laxatives, its ridiculously unhealthy - your digestive system is *supposed to be shut down* while you're not *eating anything.* Artificially stimulating it just messes it up. Worse, it dehydrates you - has it occurred to you that this might actually make you appear to lose weight slower because if you use laxatives and dehydrate yourself, your body with replenish itself by retaining liquids.

- there aren't any "toxins building up in you" - nothing is building up in you if you're fasting - except perhaps toxins from all of the unhealthy crap you're putting in your body, the redbull, crystal light, coffee, and *worst of all* "cinnamon super dieter's tea for cleansing" which contains senna, which is literally toxic - it acts as a laxative because your body tries to eliminate poisons quickly. It is a stimulant laxative, not a bulk forming or other less dangerous type of laxative.

- your scale is probably not that precise so you shouldn't necessarily think that it accurately reflects small changes in your weight. It may not be that sensitive so it takes larger differences in weight to register on teh scale - this is true of many electronic scales - they are just not that precise.

- An every other day eating diet is far from fasting, both in that it doesn't give you the health benefits of fasting, but also in that it wont slow your metabolism the way fasting will. Given this, it might be a good alternative way to lose weight quickly for someone who cannot fast properly. However fasting for days, and then breaking, then fasting for days, is a bad idea because this will slow your metabolism while also keeping you out of ketosis so you could lose more muscle and not as much fat as if you were actually fasting.
