Re: Webmaster - A request......
This one blindsided me.
B & G and guys and gals, I am flattered. My time is a bit limited, but I always have time for CureZone if needed. It has been a very special place for me and I have learned much and made many valuable friends I will cherish for the rest of my days. So, yeah, I do love the place - warts and all. Sometimes some of us blow the warts out of proportion (and I certainly include myself), and at times CZ reminds me of what I have said about my son: I love him more than life itself, at least when I'm not wanting to strangle him.
But I don't want to strangle CureZone, nor do I want to re-invent it. I would love to lend a hand to help improve. In that regard, I think that it is very appropriate that you mentioned Hanna and her contributions. She is such a sweetheart, has the best interests in CZ in mind, and pretty much labors selflessly in the background. In other words, a great role model of how a moderator can make a difference without making waves.
I don't know about being any kind of "Sheriff", though the idea makes me chuckle a bit. In case you haven't noticed, ol' DQ (my alter ego) isn't tilting his lance at nearly so many windmills lately as once was the case. I guess old dogs can learn new tricks after all. At any rate, I suppose I have come to realize that it is best to try to turn skeptics and opponents into friends and supporters if possible and, if not possible, to try to take the high road and let my posts stand on their own merit instead of getting involved in prolonged and acrimonius wars of words. That was not an easy lesson nor has the learning ended, but thanks to the examples of folks like Hanna, Dushan, Griz, B & G, etc., I have had some good teachers.
So, no would-be Rambo style mod here, though certainly I would stand ready to be assertive when needed and when within the Webbie' guidelines (it is HIS site, you know). I rather imagine that mainstream trolls who come here solely to disrupt, spammers who come only to sell, members who create multiple IDs and/or repeatedly come back after being banned, members who seem to thrive on public and private dramas, and those who resort to personal attacks and slurs would not find me to be very sympathetic. But the operative words are "appointed" and "serve" - not "annointed" and "rule"
I guess it is all hypothetical at this point anyway - but again I appreciate the thoughts and support.
All the best,
Tony
