Are the Epstein Barr Virus and the "kissing" herpes virus the same?

No. Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV 1) is oral herpes, herpes simplex type 2 (HSV 2) is genital herpes, and Epstein Barre' Virus (EBV) is a different virus than both HSV 1 and 2. There are about 8 different human herpes viruses.
