Again, as in the first article - gum disease is caused by a sticky bacterial substance at the gum-line that accumulates and produces toxins and acids.

Do we need them? Yes, absolutely - but we need to keep them controlled. When they are out of control, they cause and/or exacerbate problems... from periodontal disease to cancer and HIV.
