The fruits are grown on an herb, which makes the tomato a berry.
I think it leads me to believe that the definition of a berry is the fruit that grows on an herb. Is my interpretation right ?
From what I have learned about botanical definitions, yes. Of course there are always exceptions to rules, such as raspberries and blackberries, which grow on plants with woody tissues. So there must be some addition to the definition of berry I have not found yet.
