However, in answer to your question of preventing your metabolism from slowing down with one refeeding day in between fasts of 5--7 days the answer is "only slightly" with negligible effects on weight loss.
Fasting lowers the metabolism as a conservation measure in preserving food reserves for as long as possible in the ultimate prevention of starvation.....food scarcity and so on.
