Deadbeat dads are a whole other ball game, we are discussing the burden on taxpayer funded welfare to maintain and support millions of babies by mostly illegal aliens.  Or did I get this wrong?  The fact is, that because most of the dads are usually illegal to begin with, there is no documentation and no legal way to enforce their supporting their children, so there's no point in pondering about their non-participation.  By reason of nature, it is the pregnant mother who will stroll in to the welfare office to get her food stamps, medicare, housing, etc., etc.   The father's identity, even if known by the mother, is likely to remain purposely undeclared, precisely because that would disqualify the mother from receiving public assistance if they can go after the father.

We don't need to bring in feminist politics into every situation, it is simply logical to view the mother's responsibility ahead of the stud, er, father.

And as far as our own national, legal, unwed mothers, read my post above.  No consequences, no restraint.
