The Pill Vs Natural treatment for PCOS Try it, you will be suprised!!

PCOS is caused when serum androgen levels are raised, preventing the release of the egg from the ovary, which forms cysts. The approach to the Rx of PCOS should be focussed on helping to decrease androgen levels, which will naturally decrease symptoms such as hirsutism (hair growth), acne, etc.
By taking a synthetic hormone replacement, such as the pill, the body cannot correct itself, and you are just prolonging the syndrome, so that when you cease taking the pill the problem will be as great, if not greater, than when you decided to take it.
A study has shown that a 5% reduction in weight dramatically reduced symptoms of PCOS, and with other correct measures, can totally cure PCOS. This is because adipose tissue (fat) converts oestrogens to andorgens, which then upset the natural hormonal cycle, causing PCOS. It is a viscious cycle.

My basic recommendations to anyone suffering from PCOS would be:
- 5% weight reduction (thru diet and exercise) - remember 5% isnt much.
-increase fibre in the diet: fibre attaches to SHBG (sex hormone binding globuline) in the bowel, helping to excrete excesses in hormones. Fibre also makes you feel less hungry, and help in wt reduction.
-Probiotics and prebiotics: yoghurt, fermented drinks, and insoluble fibre, promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in the bowel wall, helping to excrete toxins, and accomplish over all well being.
-increase water intake to atleast 3L/day
-Herbals: vitex agnus castus, false unicorn root, dong quai, and other phytoestorogenic herbs. These herbs work either to increase estrogen levels, if one is low, or decreased if there is an excess.
-See a naturopath
-Start a regular exercise regieme, aim for about 1hr per day of walking or jogging.
-Good nutrition is important, not just for PCOS, but in order for the body to correct itself. Try to eat 7 serves of veges a day, and 5 of fruit. Try a vegetarian, lactose free diet for a while and see if there is any improvement in your symptoms.
-Supplements to try: chromium (helps to correct insulin resistance which may accompany PCOS), a multi-vitamin and mineral, zinc (25mg/day if you dont eat much meat, good for acne), vitamin E (great antioxidant, also good for skin conditions).

Just remember that by taking the conventional, orthodox treatment for PCOS just supresses it, making it a worsening problem, which may lead to infertility. The aim of treatment for PCOS should be focused at correcting the underlying problem, which can be easily acheived.

Remember, correcting PCOS will not happen overnight, but please try and do the above for at least 3 months, and just see the difference...Take responsibility for your health.

All the best
