Charlotte Gerson, whose father Max Gerson, M.D. was a huge proponent of coffee enemas says that the mega juicing and nutrient replacement that goes with them is to avoid dehydration and dangerous loss of minerals.

Other books I've read put a strict limit on how many coffee enemas are safe to have each month.
