Re: HIV and AIDS are not the same - HIV does not cause AIDS

Ok, I have a dumb question to ask you. I worked in a lab and we did PCR tests for patients with HIV. What I would like to know is how a healthy HIV negative person could come out with a number and not have HIV? Everyone had a number it was weird. Am I making sense? It's hard to explain because I have not been in a lab for a long time now and I've forgotten medical terms ya know but can you shed some light?

PCR (polymerase chain reaction, viral load) is a worthless test. It cannot prove the presence of a particular virus, nor viral activity. Because they are amplifying only segments of genetic material there is no wany to determine what for sure is is being amplified since other microbes can share the same genetic segments. This explains why someone without HIV can still appear to be HIV infected with a PCR test. There is also a problem called product carryover, in which the other test wells can become contaminated leading to false positives. As far as what they are claiming is viral activity, the more a sample is amplified the higher the viral load. The less it is amplified the lower the viral load. So the PCR is nothing but  a worthless sale tool.
