Olivia..Re: Vitamins and Minerals while Fasting
Hello Olivia,
I have read and hopefully digested the contents of both your own and your husbands posts here, including Mouseclicks response, along with many other Members.
Firstly I would like to stress that we have all been very concerned as to your fasting programme, and whether this would have any potentially adverse nutritional health repercussions in carrying it thru: two 40 day fasts, and another in the making of possibly equal length with very little time in between to restock on quality food reserves.
My main concern is the risk of semi-starvation, where the body will begin to consume itself, as the supplements you are using are not necessarily of an optimum and comprehensive enough nutritional spectrum over such a time-frame, and where I have posted on this very recently.
The body also needs carbohydrates and amino acids including "essential" fatty acids only obtained thru the diet, plus other nutritional elements in maintaining health and the integrity of the organism.
The fasting organism is only as safe as the pre-fast nutritional elements stored within it.
Strictly speaking you have been following a diet of nutritional supplements, rather than fasting in the strictest definition of the word by the purists here, and I would include myself in that category. This is not a criticism........merely an observation.
Secondly there is the issue of the "return of natural hunger" which occurs when some of, if not most of the nutritional reserves have become depleted to dangerously low levels.
Mouseclick has stated that this is felt in the throat, but isn't necessarily the case, and where this is an "all-over" bodily experience in a demand for nourishment: the danger I feel lies within the nutritional supplements you have been taking which could be "masking" or "disguising" or even "suppressing" this return of hunger, and where you have expressed a certain degree of hunger being experienced now for some time.
No contemporary fasting supervisor, or of the past, would have endorsed this approach to fasts of such length, with such an insufficient time in between to replenish the food reserves, and where only time will tell if this was a wise decision or otherwise.
Personally, and throughout my own extensive thirty years of experience with the fast and the fasting process, I also would not have endorsed such a precarious enterprise to anyones health.
I hope that my judgment is wrong and that you will come thru this experience unscathed with a much better understanding of your God and what this actually means in your life.
You have my true blessings and a profound respect for what may turn out to be a very fulfilling and rewarding spiritual endeavour.
I pray for your sake that it will be.
