If something does help you get over the hump, then I don't think it's the worst thing in the world (as long as it's not something like pork chops), particularly because the benefits outweigh the negatives. Chiron, if you were able to fast for 29 days, that is quite an accomplishment and I certainly don't think a couple of glasses of wine negates that accomplishment. I think our bodies will tend toward cleaner things and not need those things as the fast goes on. Anyway, I'm sure that is not the purist view of things, but in the practical world, a 29-day fast with a couple of glasses of wine is better than breaking the fast completely because you can't seem to make it through. In the end, we all end up figuring out what works for us and sometimes that's different for different people.

Just happened to see the following post about this issue on fastingconnection.com which explains why any taste is not true fasting. I still think that if a crutch works for you during the first few days, then it's OK, just as long as it doesn't continue for the whole fast.
