I use lemon juice as an activator and the taste doesn't bother me. I went up to 6 drops and started to feel flu-like and stopped for 2 days (am also using Oxypowder ). I started again today with 5 drops which caused some nausea, so am taking second amount backing off to 4 drops.
I know that feeling sick means its working, but it can make you stop too. I agree with the slow and steady approach as well. I (and others) have added a bit more by doing some baths with 30 drops activated in a clean tub and I have tried it in a neti pot as well. This is a nice addition to the plan, but I wouldn't do it every day. Every other for the baths at most is my recommendation.
Remember, too much detoxing too fast can actually hurt your body that you are trying to heal, especially the liver.
