Hep B Test Results

First, a little background …I am 41 years old and my husband is 44 years old. My husband and I have been married for 10 years. In the last several years of our marriage, we have not been able to successfully conceive a child. We have been working with infertility doctors and the end result was donor eggs, because of my age and elevated FSH level. My husband’s sperm was tested and came back normal, after successful varicocele surgery. I had 2 fibroids, equivalent to the size of human fingers, removed from my uterus. My uterus is normal now and tubes are patent/ open. All of my CCT tests have been in the single-digit range prior to mid to late 2008 year. However, the last two most recent CCT test done the beginning of this year were overall 26.5 and 33.5.

Additionally, I learned from the blood test done the end of last year that I tested positive for Hep B, but my husband is negative. In the past, I had been vaccinated for HEP B due to trying to become pregnant and preventing the chance of this virus infecting me, or the baby.

Here are the blood test results:

HEP B CORE AB, TOTAL POSITIVE
HEPATITIS B SURFACE AB H >1000.0

HBs Ag negative
Anti-HBc Total positive
HBsAb >1000

The IVF doctor wrote in my medical records, the words “Potentially Infectious.” Here’s my doctors’ reasoning for this verbiage:

The Anti-HBc Total positive means that you have had a hepatitis infection before. The Heb B surface antibody means that it is likely a past infection. However, for our IVF purposes, any screening positive test is considered potentially infectitious according to the FDA (medically it is not). However, we have to follow FDA regulations and store embryos and sperm in the cryo tank by a different protocol and we don't store them here. We ship them to XXXXXXX. Since it is a past infection and the Hep B s Ag is negative, you do not have a current infection and XXXXXXX will only charge you the regular storage fee instead of the infectitious storage fee. It is a bit of government over-meddling. But it is what we must follow.

I realize this is a lot of information, but can you help us to analyze all of this? It’s all puzzling and we’re not sure what else to do. Tweet
