Underweight & candida; tips for gaining weight while on the diet?
Hi,
I have Candidiasis since childhood, perhaps even since birth. I'm 24 now. I've always been underweight and weakly. I wasn't breast-fed :( ... and have been given
Antibiotics quite often when I was young.
Two years ago I found out I have a problem with dairy, so I stopped using that. I checked for Celiac disease but the test was negative.
The only reason for being underweight I can think of now, is malabsorption... due to Candida, not enough gut bacteria, and perhaps also lack of digestive enzymes ??
I'm not sure how candida overgrowth can actually cause malabsorption, but I've read that. How does that work?
Then there's thyroid problems (caused by candida?)... I suspect I'm hypothyroid (not hyper), because I have all the symptoms (save for the overweight problem). I will start using
Lugol's Iodine and see what happens.
Any other reasons I could be underweight, that I'm overlooking? No matter how much I eat, I can gain little or no weight. (I'm not on the Candida diet yet, just avoiding sugars for as much as possible. I still eat quite some carbs, from whole wheat bread etc.)
Then... I want to go on the candida diet soon, but I'm afraid to lose weight (as I'm already underweight).
Does anyone have tips for gaining weight while on the diet? Tips for improving digestion/absorption?
I have already thought of some:
- Digestive enzymes
- Hydrochloric acid + pepsin
- Coconut oil / coconut meat/ coconut milk
- Olive oil
- Avocados
Any more ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.
Lisa
