misnomer, you don't really lose ha. theres half a dozen enzymes that assemble it from its monomers and about half a dozen that disassemble it, constantly, so its a dynamic equilibrium. poison the enzymes necessary for assembly and you shift the equilibrium towards an undesirable dynamic. fluorides and alkylmercuries are but two but main inhibitors. you can probably find an article on the web called "fluoride and the aging factor". I bet if you look at those japs' diets, you find their fluoride intake is nil.
