Re: Help changing wifes mind about childs diet.

I don't know how much control you can have over the matter or for how long, but it might be a good Idea to try to 'restrict' certain foods for even just a day or a couple of days, and discuss with your wife how your daughters disposition has been during that time.

My Hubby was never brought up with a restrictive diet, and just loves to 'treat' our son, but there are times when I put my foot down and the change in him was notable from one day to the next.

After 'Experiencing' the difference and making a point of 'noticing' the difference with your wife around, she may see that a child on a better diet is a more agreeable and manageable child. This is what has worked on my husband.

It will also help to have supply of healthy treats to offer your child around the house. even if it is just cheddar bunnies instead of chips to start out with. Dried fruit instead of candies. My son's favorite 'treats' are a bowl of frozen blueberries, or fresh strawberries, or a individual size yogourt cup, or pistachio nuts, or little packets of seaweed papers (Nori). Be creative and it may pay off with your wife.

With the inlaws..I have had the same problems, you just need to express to them that they need to ask you before they offer to your child, because they don't know what she's eaten all day, and you don't want to be the mean one all the time by taking things away from her that have been offered. she also needs to get her 3 squares in every day and that won't happen with the unhealthy snacking.

After doing the taking away and allowing them (the inlaws) to witness the disappointed crying child on too many occasions, they finally got it, and now they ask me first.

However it is almost impossible to completely restrict bad snacks, and it is good that your child learn that moderation is the key.

Good luck
