Re: Is Iodine over-hyped

All halogens are Oxidizing. (F2, Cl2, Br2, I2). F2 is most oxidizing and I2 is least oxidizing.

Oxidant is a substance which will steal electrons ( gain electrons) and itself get reduced.

Hence F2, Cl2, Br2, and I2 get reduced to fluoride, chloride, bromide and Iodide respectively.

fluoride, chloride, bromide and Iodide are reducing agents ( aka antioxidants).

So consuming Elemental Iodine is OXIDATIVE THERAPY and consuming IODIDE salts  (eg KI) is antoxidative therapy.

Oxidative therapy has the potential of killing harmful stuff, but it also has the potential of causing damage to our healthy cells as well. Chemotherapy, Radiation and even H2O2 and ozone are all oxidative therapies.

The emphasis on Vitamin C when supplementing with I2,  is because Vitamin C is an Antioxidant, and may undo the damage done by Iodine. But why take elemental I2 in first place. Why not stick with reductive therapies? makes me wonder.
