Re: Trysten
I don't believe Trysten is an alcoholic. Does she has some serious problems? Yes! But I don't believe she's addicted to alcohol. I watched my sister go through very similar things Trysten describes, and it was much because of what Trysten said, resulting from vanity and desire for power, wanting to escape, wanting to be free, wanting to not be tied down, and desire for drama. My sister was never an alcoholic although she drank often and blacked out often. I was often called late at night to come pick her up in some dark alley when she didn't know where her car was. But my sister could go long periods too without drinking. And when she decided to quit drinking, she never had a problem with alcohol again, but she could still have a glass of wine or a beer without over drinking.
I think there are true alcoholics, those who are physically addicted and it is very tough for them to get over that without help.
And then I think there are those people like Trysten and my sister that aren't really addicted to the alcohol, but use the alcohol to fuel inward addictions. I believe these type people can let the alcohol go with relative ease when they decide too. But the inward addictions are another story.
For years, I waited for the phone call that my sister was dead somewhere, not that I wanted this at all, but I just thought it was doomed to happen with her lifestyle. She lived a very dangerous life------promiscuous sex, driving totally plastered, frequent blankouts. But by the grace of God she survived. I want to emphasize the grace of God part because that's the only reason she survived. She could have died and killed other people the first time she drove drunk. She drove drunk for years. She could have gotten aids or another std the first time she had unprotected sex. She had unprotected promiscuous sex for years. But, she survived through all of it, with no deadly consequences. Not that there weren't any consequences to it all though. There were plenty.
My sister became truly free, what she always wanted, when she put her faith in Jesus Christ, instead of herself. She now can't even barely talk about her past without the deepest remorse. You know, when I was watching her go through all that, it looked like she was having the time of her life. She seemed up and happy most of the time. There were many times when I was envious of her party lifestyle. I really believe she thought she was happy. But now she will tell people those were the worst years of her life, she was always miserable, and she can't imagine going back.
I know the Jesus Christ message isn't what most people want to hear, but it's our only solution to the sin problem we all have. No one here is better than Trysten. Everyone wants to make up their own morality rules. Trysten may get over the alcohol problem with ease, but she still will have a sin problem and so will everyone here unless you all turn to Jesus Christ. He came to sacrifice himself for the sins of the world. No other religion or self help effort that is devoid of Jesus Christ will solve the problem. We have one God, one creator, who said this is the way it's going to be-----believe in my Son, who I am sending as a sacrifice for your sins, or you will die in your sins. We are all in the same boat people, we all have sin, and there is only one solution.
Trysten, you won't be free until you get this, and it's the same for everyone else here.
Romans 3:22-24
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
