This is one reason I get so frustrated when people argue about political solutions to the so-called healthcare crisis. The real healthcare crisis is that people are being sickened needlessly through poor diet and exposure to toxins. What the media and politicians call "the healthcare crisis" is in truth the fiscal crisis triggered by healthcare providers in cahoots w/ the FDA who pursue flashy, expensive, technology- and drug-based modalities that work poorly and cost patients obscene amounts of money.
People think universal healthcare will help -- all it does is change the way the money flows through. It does nothing to address the underlying problem.
Iodine supplementation would put a huge dent in that. That's just one example.
Get people healthy so they don't need these expensive invasive treatments and costs go down for everyone. But that conversation isn't even on the table. We're too busy comparing the costs of McCain & Obama's health care reform proposals. Total B.S.
