Re: Burkas on the Streets of Austin, O/T

Hi Mo

I don't think there is confusion about the Burkah or misunderstanding; but there is a difference of opinion. There is alot of information about the Burkah and what it is supposed to mean; there is alot of community education about it and what it stands for. The thing is, I disagree with it, and consider it to be a symbol and a method of subjugating and positioning women under men. For example, I don't think there is a need to be "modest". If this were so, men should be modest too and cover up because they are just as alluring as women. No amount of educating is going to convince me that it is good for you, and for women in Islam, to wear the Burkah or any covering.

Ofcourse you have a right to wear it. But I think you need to know, no amount of "education" is going to change my mind about it.

Having said that I'm sure there are alot of beautiful things in Islam; this is not one of them.
