Re: Where was the mercy for this girl?
I live in South Africa and I did not read or hear about this story until now.
The thing is I think this father wanted to avoid any form of disgrace that he thought his daughter had thrust upon him.
What he did to his daughter though goes against the code of Islam.
Islam states that having sex before marriage is dissallowed but people go ahead and do it anyway. Islam also states that when a person who is not married fornicates with another person that both parties involved should be punished accordingly. If I'm not mistaken I think that the punishment is 100 lashes. The human rights commission would have something to say about this but then again doesn't the human rights commission also state that you have the right to a religion, and if you're following islam you should be punished according to those laws.
As I stated before what he did was murdered his daughter, which goes against the code of Islam. He should have had a check up on her before issuing punishment. This would have saved him a lot of trouble. This would have also saved her life. In Islam the punishment for killing someone is death and I believe that they should have him killed that is unless this man was psychotic at the time. Islam has a rule for that too but I'm not too sure what that is.
Now for your main question: "Are all muslim families like this?"
Nooooo.....
If you think like this then you are sorely mistaken.
Last year in South Africa a police officer killed his entire family before turning the gun on himself. Does this make all police officers homocidal maniacs.. I don't think so.
In South Africa if a person gets pregnant before marriage we don't give them the 100 lashes. If they are having affairs out of marriage we do not stone them to death. In fact most of the Islamic customs are not practiced here. In a muslim country though that is a different story. This is because their rules are different to the laws passed by other governments.
Think about it this way. If Islamic rule was imposed in all countries, we wouldn't have three quaters of the issues that are afflicting the world. Crime would fall way beyond what we have now. Family issues will probably cease to exist and so many things that affect us will slowly start to disappear.
If your read a lot of material concerning Islam you would see what I meant. Family matters, sexual matters, business matters, political matters and so forth...
There is a solution to every single one of these problems in Islam but most people will think of it as oppression.
I'm sorry if it seems I'm going too deep but I feel things need to be said and not stereotyped.
