Re: Allergy to Balsam of Peru can cause cheilitis
more info on Balsam of Peru...
chemically related to:
benzoic alcohol
benzyl acetate
benzaldehyde
benzoic acid
cinnamic acid
eugenol
etc., etc., etc...
if you're allergic to sunblock or pimple cream (benzoyl peroxide), or you're sensitive to fragrances, you might be allergic to balsam of peru & derivatives. and if you've ever put any of these chemicals on your lips, that could be why you now have cheilitis.
... sensitivity to balsam of Peru is not restricted to fragrance alone; it can also be triggered from the following direct food sources:
* Spices
* Colas
* Tobacco
* Wines
* Vermouth
so, if you think you might have a fragrance allergy or allergy to any of the benezene compounds, read the link i posted, try the avoidance diet for a month, and then let us know how that worked for you! oh, don't forget to drink your white tea twice a day, and maybe do a white tea compress on your lips twice a day as well. good lordy -- i'm Sooo not disciplined for this long-term commitment, but my lips are still bothering me. so it's worth a try.
g'nite!
