Re: WF10/MMS Silverfox Question
Jon,
1. You wrote: "You are now saying that ClO2 is a cation."
What I wrote is that I accidentally flipped the two when I wrote it, but feel free to think you "caught" me if you like. Happy to help you feel better. I corrected myself and said that ClO2, chlorine dioxide, is not negatively charged. Actually, it turns out and to be more precise, that ClO2 in a gaseous state, is a neutral molecule, neither negative or positive, not a "cation" as you put it. I don't know at this point if and when chlorine dioxide is a positively charged molecule at all. That's a question for another day.
2. You wrote: "It is not an ion at all and is not positively charged
Also sodium chlorite becomes chlorine dioxide by acidification and chlorine dioxide then becomes chlorite when it gains an electron or chloride when it gains 5 electrons (ie oxidizes something) not the other way around"
I am confused by this. Chlorine dioxide, ClO2, becomes chlorite, ClO2-, when it is combined with an acid. As I mentioned there are two phases to the reaction, and perhaps I'll figure that out and post it. I believe there is also some salt substance and probably chlorates as well. As far as oxidation and "5 elections" is something I cannot comment on as I have no idea what you're talking about. Perhaps you can start from scratch and explain what you're talking about. As for now, I don't know. I believe you also confused Bruce in a post above.
Correct me when you're right.
