Re: "Lazy colon".
Hi Tony,
Enemas will not contribute to a 'lazy' colon or cause constipation. An enema is a good way to address constipation, but has its limitations because it rarely reaches beyond the sigmoid colon (the lowest part). It can bring some immediate relief, though.
colonics are far more effective at removing any impactions in the colon and a series of
colonics can actually help to strengthen peristalsis by exercising the bowel muscle which improves a 'lazy' colon. The fiber (psyllium) adds bulk to the stool which also helps to strengthen this muscle. She should probably procede slower with the cleanse in order to give her body a chance to adjust to the additional fiber...she needs to pay close attention to how her body responds.
'Lazy' colon is a wastebasket diagnosis...there is an underlying cause for it. She may have any number of conditions that contribute....unditected
food allergies or sensitivites, hypothyroid, pathogenic organisms in her GI tract, parasites, a congested liver, etc.
All that being said...the p&b cleanse can lead to an increase in constipation (not because it makes the colon lazier, but because of the increased bulk) if constipation is already present...everything just gets backed-up. If she is opposed to colonics, then she should take enemas regularly to clear out as much of the impaction as she can. High doses of vit C and/or magnesium can also be used to move the bowels safely. She will have to determine what dose of these works for her...everyone's sensitivity is different.
