distilled water according to thirst has always been the recommendation of qualified Natural Hygienists, including the likes of Paul Bragg, Shelton and many others as the purest form of water available.

Five years is a relatively short time to be suffering with arthritis, so hopefully one medium to long fast should be of sufficient duration, but just as importantly, your diet and lifestyle will need to be modified, for the benefits to accrue post-fast.
I would read up as much as possible about the fasting process from Sheltons online book and research a properly combined Natural Hygiene diet, which is essentially a raw food one: fruits, vegetables, seeds, pulses and nuts. Severely restrict your intake of starches and sugars, which will also aid in recovery post-fast.

To quote Shelton.........
"Wrong food combinations, excesses of starches, and sugars, condiments, coffee, tea, liquors, and tobacco are potent factors in laying the groundwork for the evolution of arthritis."
"Fundamentally and primarily the cause of Arthritis is toxemia".

Water-Fasting is by far quickest and most efficient way of ridding your body of toxemia.
Fasting is also unequaled in eradicating any mental or psychiatric disorders: I suffered with clinical Depression for years until I discovered Natural Hygiene and fasting.
Dr Yuri Nikolayev of the Moscow Psychiatric Institute successfully treated schizophrenics by Water Fasting his patients with this disorder for 30 days or more.
It doesn't necessarily follow that, that you have inherited this condition. Genetic diseases can be just a synonym for the same bad diet followed by several generations of the same ancestry.

A. Any age.

Children and infants are usually more in touch with their natural instincts than adults who have had their thinking brainwashed into them. Children will instinctively know when to fast and for how long.

Children and infants are the best judge as to their demand for food.
