The word "church" can be traced back to the Scottish word "kirke " which was derived from a Greek goddess called mother circe. Which is where we get the saying mother church from today.
The basic mythology of circe was that she hypnotized men who came to her and they lost their minds. She would then feed of their energy and body. She doesn't do anything just lives of the energy or current-cy of others by deceiving them.
Interesting that they would get the name of a "holy" place from a goddess who confused and tricked men into doing her bidding. Actually makes a lot of sense if you think about what the vatican or mother church has done to men for the past 2000years.
