There are a couple of things that made the whole fasting experience easier for me:
1) Not trying to lose everything in one go. Obviously, this is possible, but it is just like any form of diet when it comes to getting discouraged if the goal is TOO big.
2) Also concentrating on the positive health benefits as opposed to just the weight loss. Over time, I've found that I actually need to fast for a few days every few months just to kind of clear my head.
3) Realizing that food isn't going anywhere. It will always be there when you have finished, and I can tell you from personal experience, that it tastes SO much better after successfully finishing a fast.
I haven't lost all of my weight yet (I started a 21 day fast today in an attempt to shed my last 30 pounds.) But I can say that I have lost 55 pounds so far, and have managed to keep it off without a problem.
