Doggy diarrhea question for Invincible and others.

Hi Invincible,

As I've been a curezone lurker for quite some time now I've read many of your posts across different topics and especially your information on pets and the BARF diet. My dog is currently having a diarrhea problem and I would greatly appreciate any input you may have to offer.

The situation: I have a 40-45 pound red-tick coonhound mix (going on two years old) who has had a diarrhea problem for about three days now. He has had an on-again off-again parasite problem (small white worms in stool) over the course of the past few months, which usually seems to be stomped out with diatomaceous earth, although I'm obviously doing an inadequate job somewhere along the line since the problem returns (also began a once-per-month herbal de-wormer tincture ordered from England last month). Part of the problem is that I do not have him on the BARF diet (inexcusable and hopefully I can smarten myself up soon) and feed him dry food (Dick Van Patten Natural Balance) but nonetheless, one thing I know is that I do not wish to bring him anywhere near a vet's office so that they can tell me things I already know, poison the dog with drugs, and charge me exorbitant amounts of money.

The worms recently reappeared in his stool, so I again began adding diatomaceous earth to his food (also dashing with cayenne time to time). He has consumed the DE in his food for many consecutive weeks in the past (also the cayenne) while having and seemingly getting rid of worms, and it has not caused diarrhea or any other distress. He is still "himself" - as happy, balanced, and energetic as he is any other time, but he now has this ongoing diarrhea problem that I'm not sure how to solve. When fed, he of course produces a greater amount of diarrhea and when not recently fed, he still hunkers down continuously but produces only small amounts of diarrhea or just some liquidy discharge. This morning I actually noticed what appeared to be some blood coming out with one of his small discharges.

Would fasting the dog be recommended in this condition? Would keeping him more at rest be recommended (I generally exercise him vigorously daily). I'm sure the worms likely have something to do with the current crises, although we've dealt with them previously and not had any symptoms such as the ones we have now. I've never had any digestive problem with him that lasted more than a day so I'm growing concerned as this current problem continues so am here to seek advice.

All input is most welcome and appreciated. Thanks kindly.
