Helen:
There is no way you would be gassy and had cramps from eating veggie meals. If you ate meat your body is used to digesting heavy protein. Meats are very high in protein which ur body has hard time digesting.

I am a vegetarian since birth, now I eat all raw veggie foods, nuts, juices, fruits etc. and feeling great. You do not want to too much at one time. Try fruits for one meal then have a sandwich with greens, tomatoes and cheese (if you eat that. Eat salad for one meal. For snack eat raisins and cashews or almonds. Figs and dates make a nice snack as well. One very nutritive food for vegetarians is moong bean soup. Eat cereals. I personally do not like supermarket cereals. I make almond milk and use that with oatmeal, but I have not eaten cooked foods for 6 weeks now.

If you google 'vegetarian recipes' you will find a lot of websites.

Good luck with your new journey.
