My boyfriend is an alcoholic

I posted this in the alcoholic's forum but it seems kind of quiet.

We've been together 5 months which doesn't seem like a lot but we spend everyday together and he's a huge part of my life. I'm 23 and he's 25. I love him very much and he's great 80% of the time and then 20% is bad. Everything bad that has happened in our relationship has been a result of his drinking. I'd list off the stupid, irresponsible, disgusting, rude crap he's pulled while being intoxicated but I'm sure everyone's heard it before. He usually drinks a few beers every night and then binge drinks 4-5 times a month. He stopped for 5 days and was extremely edgy and irritable at the time of night he usually drinks. I've talked to him about this, but it's not going to stop.

Tonight was a bad night. He got pretty drunk and was on the phone, he was mentioning what we were driving to go do(I was driving, yes I was sober, I hardly drink) and I heard him refer to me as another girl's name that sounds like mine. He dated her briefly about a year ago, no he no longer talks to her, she did come up in conversation 2 days ago. Things went to crap after I heard that. I ended up telling him to get out of my car and went to his parent's. His mom is a clinical psychologist-she's pretty easy to talk to. I explained the situation and she understood, I don't think she quite knows how bad it is but she got it still. She said she would be supportive of whatever decision I made and would help.

My only plan, which I'm not sure if it will work, is to sit down with my bf and his parents asap and ask him to go to counseling, AA, something like that and if he refuses, then I need to leave him...somehow.

Anyways, I would appreciate any advice. This is so hard. It's breaking my heart.

Thank you
