One post mentioned over population of deer. There is a state park close to here that did not allow any hunting for many many years. Many areas of the state park were basically stripped, and I mean stripped, of any vegitation within reach of the deer there because there was such an overpopulation due to a complete imbalance in the predator vs. prey arena (I mean deers natural predators not just hunting). I was walking through a wooded section of the park and came upon two deer and I was floored. Deer are very beautiful animals but these deer were the most malnurished pittiful looking creatures I have seen. Huge patches of hair missing on their bodies, very thin...horrible looking. I cannot imagine anyone seeing this and being against hunting. We as a society have taken away the natural balance of prey versus predator and when hunting is removed from the equation this is what you end up with. Starvation, damage, and a horrible things such as what I saw in these deer. A couple of years later it became so bad they opened up season on deer in the park and it was some rediculous limit (one or two a day if I remember right) and they have committed to do this frequently to prevent this type of issue from happening again. At my last visit I saw many deer and they looked much better thank goodness.
Nature cannot take care of itself now because of human overpopulation and because we have destroyed and reduced the amount of natural predators so much.
