Re: Survey - Gun Control vs. Gun Rights
Doing some back tracking, I find it interesting this thread originated in the abortion forum. Just going on the basis that both guns and abortions kill people, I also find it interesting that when guns are used to kill (people, animial or other), it tends to cause a bloody mess, and when the people killed were kids, the news of such seems to have more impact. Meanwhile, as for abortions, yes, I suspect they too result in a bloody mess but to me it seems the way they are generally conducted does not attribute to them earning the same rap that guns have. A gun might just leave somebody wounded or maimed or scared-but-unscathed. Abortions kill; I've never heard of someone having survived an abortion. Except for the relative few under the watchful eye of activists, abortions tend to be done in the quiet of some off-street clinic away from the glare and bright lights of public scrutiny, so in this sense, abortions, compared to death by guns, tend to be kept "out of site, out of mind", and I feel this helps to minimize how people at large feel about them.
Since I'm going to make this statement, this means I must now also go off and search for some sort of legitimate evidence or facts to back it up, but it is my understanding that death count from abortions is monumentally higher than death count from guns, but..... I suppose it depends on where one is counting and possibly influenced by who is doing the counting. For instance, if within the 50 states is where the counting is done, I really don't care who does the counting, it is fairly conclusive abortions kill many more than do guns. However, if the counting is done globally, and takes in heavy gun zones, for instance Afghanistan and Iraq, I think the gun at least has a better chance to compete for the kinds of numbers that abortions claim globally.
