Re: controversy over raw food...

I was reading about fruitarian eating on several sites recently and also came across that idea that vegetables contain naturally occuring toxins or poisons so they can defend themselves against being eaten -- the fruities point to eating fruit as the part of plants that are supposed to be eaten, of course.

I have one dear friend who is a raw fooder and he did get sort of gaunt and insane and unwell mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I think though that he was not getting enough calories, period, which can mess you up in all of those ways. Plus he was doing a lot of Liver Flushing and fasting, both of which IME can elicit some insanity (there's a reason people used to go out in the desert for 40-day fasts!). He got better when he added meat back in.

I think as a group the most unwell people I have known in the larger world of alt-health and eating, etc. are the vegans. I used to work at a health-food-store and my advice after that experience is: try not to have starving hippies as colleagues -- they whine a lot and are miserable and get nothing done! And spiritualize their resentments and in doing so justify to themselves all the crazy behavior.

Interesting post, as always, 07!

Laura
