controversy over raw food...

I was reading an article recently (I can't remember where) that was essentially saying that raw food is not very good for the body.

They say that all plants have evolved with inherent defense mechanisms (sublte phytochemical "poisons") that are meant to ward off animals from eating them. It is in turn very hard on the body to consume these raw foods that are full of the defense phytochemicals.

In all honesty, everybody that I have ever seen that has ever been a raw foodie for many many years looks absolutely TERRIBLE. There is this one guy out in LA who started a raw food restaurant and was one of the first to market raw cusine as a trend and he looks like he is dying of some terrible disease, yet he claims that he is about as healthy as you can get.

Others too, that have been on this diet for 5 years or 10 years look horrendous. It is clear that this is very stressful on the body.
