Re: A little tip re: real goods

How creative~! I have been slowly investing in things
which can help me feel more self-sufficient or could
contribute to a community effort. We have 5 families
out where I live. This house could hold everyone if
need be too. Here was a list I came across a few years
back and it is still good to give you ideas~~certainly
I am going to invest in some heritage seed...soon.

I do not agree with all this list's choices but do
remember the list WAS motivational. Some of the things I
considered important were seeds and sprouters. I also
have a good supply of face masks and latex gloves.
I bought a water distiller which can be used on a
wood stove or on a stove in case we would have to
process pond water, collected water, or water from
the hand pump we have on the property. Also invested
in a Berkfield gravity water filter and tents in
case something like martial law was enacted and we
had company. This could give people some space outside
for privacy...

I have 3 solar cookers and a real good herb supply
with capper and caps. I also bought a good supply of
coconut oil as it has a longer shelf life than olive
and can be eaten, used as hair/body conditioner etc.
I even have a hand washing machine which uses 1-3
quarts of water per load.

More than anything, it gives me some peace of mind
that at least I am considering that we should be ready
for the unexpected. Hurricane Rita really impacted me
that way. I feel more prepared now than I was then...

100 Items to Disappear First In A Catastrophe:

1. Generators (Good ones cost dearly. Gas storage, risky. Noisy...target of
thieves; maintenance etc.)
2. Water, Water Filters/Purifiers
3. Portable Toilets
4. Seasoned Firewood. Wood takes about 6 - 12 months to become dried, for home
uses.
5. Lamp Oil, Wicks, Lamps (First Choice: Buy CLEAR oil. If scarce, stockpile
ANY!)
6. Coleman Fuel. Impossible to stockpile too much.
7. Guns, Ammunition, Pepper Spray, Knives, Clubs, Bats & Slingshots.
8. Hand-can openers, & hand egg beaters, whisks.
9. Honey/Syrups/white, brown sugar
