Re: Farenheit 451

Bradbury was certainly a visionary...
I loved the book and the movie and as time
went by and libraries were scaled back and
information seemed to be scarcer, (until the
computer went mainstream), I worked to renew
my love for reading myself. It is not always
easy to find time to read while working and
raising a family, but I was determined not to
get out of the habit.

Your son is very lucky that you have the
wisdom to introduce him to literature, as well
as homeschool him. I remember the thrill of
reading with a flashlight under the covers...ggg.
I married a writer and so my own reading habit
continued to grow and we raised our kid on reading.
My husband would read whole books to us a chapter
at a time. Those times are part of the great family
memories we have. Books on tape, and passing
the newspaper around and forays to the many
public libraries were also a constant.

I recently sent a book to my daughter which
is a copy of a book I am reading so we can
discuss it afterward. We are both beginning it.
Our love for books is one of our "ties that bind".

I read this article today too which emphasizes
how fortunate those of us who have a hunger
for books and knowledge are. I guess a huge
segment of the world's population do not even
know what they are missing. In this day and
age, critical thinking is not only suppressed,
it is chemically eradicated it seems and who
knows where this trend will take us. Obviously,
again, homeschooling is the way to go~!

Has your son read "1984" by Orwell yet?

Keep up the good fight~!

blessings,
Zoe
