Odor Cleanse is the same amino acid mushroom extract as Champex, which has been researched in Japan for controlling breath, body and fecal odor.
Studies in hospitals there used it to successfully eliminate body odor in the elderly and it improved their bowel movements after 30 days.
It was the finishing cure for me. Probiotics cut the odor a bit and fixed the constipation and yeast recurrences, but Odor Cleanse is the cure for my odor problem. The capsules are 75mg so I take 7 after each meal to make it 525mg per dose. The lower dose is only good for breath odor.
You can see the research studies for odor removal and intestinal health with graphs and charts at www.directfood.net/champex They are trying to start an IBS clinical trial for it. You can leave your email with them and they are supposed to follow up. I put mine name in 6 weeks ago but haven't heard back from them.
*There is a separate supplier thread with more online sources and retailers.* The list below is incomplete.
Champex will available on the U.S. website http://q-o-l.com/ beginning December 2007.
Odor Cleanse (75mg caps) is available in U.S. and Champex (250mg caps) is sold in Europe and U.K. http://www.supersmart.com/search.pl?search=champex (37 pounds per bottle) They are the same product, just different doses and prices.
Edited 09/17/07 to add: Pro M Internal Deodorizer by Life Extension is a 500mg dose of a different mushroom extract and is discount priced at $18.20 at www.betterlife.com, or $16.00 at www.healthmegamall.com.
Higher doses are needed for body odor than for breath odor and best results will be seen after 2 weeks or more use. My odor progressively improved each week and was completely gone after 5 weeks. I am at week 6 now and had a job interview a few days ago and no one made faces at me.
Odex is the same product too, but has been discontinued by Pure Encapsulations.
http://sterlingorganics.com sells a product called Quantum Kidney Complex which contains the mushroom extract too. Does not specify how many mg are in it.
Sorry about that. I will edit the thread and add the link.
http://www.supersmart.com/search.pl?search=champex I think this is in England or Europe, but they have a currency converter built in to the product prices. I have not come across a U.S. distributor for Champex--only for Odor Cleanse. It works out cheaper for me shipping wise to go with odor cleanse; quite expensive to ship from England.
www.smartbomb.com also carries Odor Cleanse ($5.37 per bottle) 1-800-425-3115.
The Champex manufacturer is Maypro Industries in New York www.maypro.com 1-914-251-0701 They only make the raw materials and sell to supplement and food companies.
Yes, it really does work. Must take a high enough dose though. This is a problem with Odor Cleanse being only 75mg, and only comes in 50 capsule bottles. The Champex 250mg is a perfect dose and only would need 2 capsules after each meal, but naturally it is more expensive.
Specifically, I had a fish smell coming from the crotch, skunky odor from armpits-sometimes like onions, rubbery smell from my shoes which I fixed pretty good by putting iodine on bottoms of my feet and underarms after showering. An overall composty smell used to emanate from my pores which I could detect first thing in the morning in bed if I took long slow breaths.
People just reacted so horribly from 10 feet away. I dreaded walking towards someone because that was the worst thing to see--the looks on their faces as I got closer. My breath didn't seem to be a problem, just body odour. Now it's under control. I never miss a dose of odor cleanse--7 capsules after each meal, 6 might be enough now.
Seems to have removed a lot of poison from me that I don't seem to be able to detoxify on my own. I eat white or cremini mushrooms almost every day now, too. Agaricus bisporus is white, cremini and portabella. All 3 are same species. Asians have known for centuries about the breath freshening properties of the agaricus bisporus (white button) mushroom. Now as a more potent extract, it removes body odour too.
If I run out of odor cleanse, I use charcoal capsules until my shipment arrives. But that only happened once. Now I know when to order my 24 bottles so I don't run out while waiting for delivery. 24 bottles lasts me 57 days. So I have to remember to order at about 45 days to allow for mail service. This time I ordered from smartbomb.com - they gave me a 5% discount for ordering 24.
It's good that you are in Europe and can buy Champex. It will be much more convenient to swallow 2 capsules after each meal than the 7 Odor Cleanse I have to take. The products are identical, just agaricus bisporus mushroom extract. Same raw material, different supplement distributors.
I was always prone to constipation and gas when I was a kid, no odor problem that I was aware of. I ate a lot of sugary foods, never gained weight from it. Not just homemade, though, junky stuff from the store, cream donuts, etc. I was filling up with chemicals and didn't know better. Never could tolerate soda pop even in my teens noticed pain and bloating from it so rarely drank it back then. Haven't had anything carbonated since.
In my 20's I had an appendectomy and the severe digestive problems and body odor began after the surgery. This has gone on for over 15 years. I needed lactaid pills and acidophilus for 6 months after the surgery. Two years ago I stopped eating anything with sugar in it, except fruit, no refined sugar and honey only once in a while. This was done because of the leaky gut symptoms I was noticing. One year ago I stopped eating anything processed. I found out that glucose-fructose, which is liquid invert sugar, and high fructose corn syrup all cause IBS pain according to researchers. I stopped eating anything that contained this and had to buy organic bread to avoid it. I feel no pain in my gut as long as I avoid that horrible modified sugar. In my reading from Dr Whitaker and Dr David Williams I found out that the food industry uses glucose-fructose in everything they make because it is cheaper than white sugar and causes uncontrollable cravings for sweets. So you eat more of their fake food products--they make more money. HFCS has been proven to cause type II diabetes. The other food additives (artificial vanilla, polysorbate 80) give me headaches. So, since switching to a half organic diet, I have no gut pain or headaches anymore. Even Crest/Colgate toothpaste was giving me headaches. I am not a vegetarian. I don't drink milk anymore, sometimes cook with it. I use non-homogenized organic milk when I do. Homogenized milk gives me gut pain even with enzymes. I eat naturally raised meat/chicken/turkey and only wild caught fish. I eat a lot of fats and oils and generally a good homeade from scatch diet. Takeout food would give me pain from head to gut. I eat a 2 egg omelet with onions, chopped garlic, zucchini, red peppers and mushrooms every morning and Odor Cleanse takes care of the smells. Even curry is no match for Super Hero Agaricus Bisporus!
So enzymes and probiotics made me digest better but still had odors. Chorella and alkalizing minerals helped but didnt eliminate the smell. My doctor tested my blood and found low levels of trace minerals: zinc, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, manganese. Told me to take supplement. Some of these minerals are responsible for detoxification of certain chemicals and I was deficient. The supplement didn't help the odor. But I noticed my armpits smelled better when I switched to zinc picolinate. I guess I can't absorb zinc citrate. Clinical studies have shown that zinc deficient people absorb the picolinate form much better. You shouldn't take it more than 2 or 3 months though since picolinic acid can build up.
So the supplements helped quite a bit in terms of halting digesting pain and lessening odor a bit, but only an improvement that I could notice. Other people still couldn't stand my smell. Odor Cleanse turned that all around and also has cut down the bloating I had. Seemed like anything I ate made my stomach expand. I expect my intestines to completely heal with long term use of the odor cleanse mushroom extract. They are so much better now. If I truly do have leaky gut, then the extract must be neutralizing the chemicals in the intestines before they cross into my blood, and keeping my blood clean. That is how the research says it works: neutralizes putrid digestive odors and purifies the blood stream.
Here's what I take:
Primadophilus Optima (35 billion per capsule, enteric coated)
Garden of Life Omega Zyme (one per meal)
New Roots Strong Bones (minerals and silica)
Now Zinc picolinate 25mg
Sequel Naturals Chloressence (5 tablets in morning)
Genuine Health Omega Joy fish oil (2 with supper)
Now Melatonin (1 mg 2-stage release) for sleep and hormone balance
New Roots d-ribose powder ( Half teaspoon at bedtime for sore muscles)
Yerba Prima Odor Cleanse 75mg (7 capsules after each meal)
Cortef and dessicated thyroid (adrenal insufficiency/stress)
The website for Champex www.directfood.net/champex goes into detail about the recommended doses for each condition: foul breath, body odours, fecal odours. At the bottom it says doses will be different for each person and for some the dose will need to be doubled. There is a lot of information on the site and I recommend anyone interested in trying Odor Cleanse or Champex read it to understand who the product was designed for (not us) and we need a higher dose--some will need higher than me. Another information sheet: http://www.mishima.fi/PDF/deodorizers/champex1.pdf
When I first started taking it I was taking 3 capsules after each meal (3x75mg) and about 5 days later started a volunteer job. People didn't seem notice my odour from afar but up close would make sniffing noises. So I upped the dose each day. The websites that sell these products specify that it takes at least 2 weeks to take effect for body odour, and so does the above Champex site. I began getting the benefits after about 3 weeks, but I know it got better each day because I couldn't smell the odour in my clothes when I took them off anymore, and my shoes smelled less and less toxic.
I think now it was working by removing ammonia from the blood, thereby reducing a huge margin of the foul smell, but took awhile to saturate everything--the intestines where existing toxins were present for a long time, then the current toxins from that days' food digestion, then travelling to the blood to remove ammonia, indoles, and mercaptan and various methyl amines--all gases that smell and are supposed to be removed by the liver.
But only a liver that isn't overworked and drowning in toxins to begin with. Now, maybe my liver is relieved of a lot of stress and can eliminate some of the stuff on its own, while the mushroon extract takes the burden off of it. Does this make sense? I think this is why it takes several weeks to work and some people might give up after only a few days or one week, thinking it's another "cure" that let them down. I've been through that with cleanses and probiotics. I would think "It's finally over." Then the sniffing and rude faces began again. I think cleanses are necessary and they help reduce some odour, but the body is not capable of keeping up with the detoxification process, and each morsel of food adds more toxic gases which will build up again. The mushroom extract is the missing link in the detox pathway for us.
If you do a google search of agaricus bisporus research you will note that there is a lot of research going on for its ability to remove heavy metals from soil. It also contains a substance that can be converted to a bio-fuel (the U.S. department of Engergy is sequencing its genome. Mushrooms are an amazing gift from God. He is to be praised for his perfect design of the planet and its contents. We know about the healing properties of the other guys: shaitake, maitake, cordyceps--but who would have suspected the little white button mushroom of being such a powerhouse?
Thanks for the Life Extension tip. I received their magazine every month and did not know about this product.
It's called Pro-M Internal Deodorizer http://www.lef.org/newshop/cgi-shop/AlphaList.cgi?letter=P&page=3 and is a much higher dosage like you said, 500mg and $19 or $26 a bottle of 100 capsules, depending on whether you are a member or not. L.E.F. Members pay $19.
But please note this mushroom formulation contains soy beans, a potential allergen to some people. I can't take this, but would definitely buy it instead of Odor Cleanse if it didn't have the soy beans in it since it is a much better price for the correct dosage I need. I phoned LEF and asked why the soy; they are getting back to me.
Thanks again for the heads up.
Yes. I take a high dose though--525mg after each meal. Other supplements as well, noted above. Yesterday I started 2 drops of Lugol's solution (potassium iodide) on doctor's instruction because of low energy for many years. Iodine kills germs in the blood, improves thinking/IQ/energy and removes fluoride and mercury. Visit the iodine forum for more info. http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=815 I think this deficiency is part of our problem. A lack of internal disinfecting.
And I want to find out if Life Extension can make Pro M Internal Deodorizer without soybeans. 500mg caps would be much more convenient, not to mention cheaper than buying 24 bottles of Odor Cleanse at a time.
