Nope, not true. You can still get large quantities of Lugol's (i.e., 8 oz., 16 oz., 32 oz., 1 gal.)at Clarkson labs. It seems we were misled about there being a ban on purchasing larger quantities. Please see above link for a possible explanation. If I've understood this all correctly, after 8/1/07, purchases over 1 oz. must be documented and special records kept (for Uncle Sam or somebody like that) which the larger companies were already doing. Some of the smaller companies were not willing to go to that extra paperwork trouble so they discontinued either the sale of larger quantities or sale of Lugol's altogether. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
If you live outside of California, Clarkson ships from one of their other suppliers. Mine was shipped from Ricca in Texas. I paid $33.10 for a 1 liter bottle of Lugol's 5%. It is my understanding that JCrow also uses Ricca as one of their suppliers. The bottle states that it is "Equivalent to USP."

Another falsehood is that Iodine is a rescheduled controled substance.
The fact is that Iodine is not regulated. That would take an act of Congress.
Rather, what is subject to regulation are sellers and distributors of iodine in interstate commerce. The legislative jurisdiction of the National government is , and always has been , very limited.
I'm all for preventing the drug cruds from finding it easy to break the laws of the several States in the Union.
I hope that regulating the sellers and distributors of iodine works.

This is a reply to # 934,740I don't think there will be any change for those of us who order a couple of quarts or liters or maybe even a gallon at a time. The company is responsible for keeping up with the paperwork. I was concerned about all this going down on 8/1 and I've been talking to Oleta at Clarkson's for weeks now, and it is my understanding that (for us or even them) nothing is going to change. If I want to order Lugol's, I just pick up the phone.
It's the smaller companies that will be affected. They have the choice to either sell the 1 oz. quantities without the hassle of the paperwork, or jump through the hoops of the government that the larger companies were already doing as SOP (standard operating procedure).
I may be wrong, but unless the company you'd ordered from has stopped selling Lugol's altogether, I would think you'd be able to continue.
Please report back if you find out something different. - i see no need for that trapper/kcmo

This is a reply to # 934,740you should be able to buy I2 and KI and get distilled water and make your own lugols. russians arent stupid. the best quality KI is made in germany anyway. you should be able to fix yourself up with a gallon of Lugols for the equivalent in rubles of probably $10. for every liter of solution, there is 50gm of I2, 100gm KI and 850ml of h2o.
miz the KI in a small amount of the water, enough to dissolve it all. it will turn ice cold. then mix the I2 into the solution. at this concentration, the I2 will dissolve almost immediately. once everything is in a liquid state, add more distilled h2o to the solution until a volume of 1 liter is attained. there you have it. Lugols striong Iodine solution. the quality of the Lugols you make is equal to the lesser quality of the two forms of iodine. use usp or greater KI. reagent grade is fine. stay away from lab grade.
let us know how it goes. check the list and make sure you have none of the other ingredients for meth laying around in any quantity and you should be above any suspicion whatsoever.- Re: i see no need for that- Thanks t... snakeater 17 y 2,026

ok, boys and girls. put on your thinking caps and READ this little diddy from our great and powerful gov. you will learn something. lots of things. including just how much profit is in Iodine and how we are being sheared like sheep for nothing but hot air and because it is easy to instill fear in people.
i will get you started with this quote from the beginning:
"Iodine crystals, which are used legally for a variety of commercial and medical purposes, frequently are used illegally to produce high quality d-methamphetamine. The following ephedrine/pseudoephedrine reduction method utilizes Iodine in the production process."
two points stand out to me. first, this is only ONE WAY of making meth. there are many more that do not use iodine. second, ALL METHODS of meth production must utilize ephedrine/pseudoephedrine. ALL of them. and guess where that crap comes from???
a third and final note - you will notice we are being charged even more than the gouge prices to meth manufacturers. what the hell are we doing that is so wrong?
post script: i have h2o2 and Iodine tincture both on my debit card purchases.

Last week I ordered some more Lugol's from Science Company and they did tell me that after August 1,2007 they could not sell any more 4 oz size or larger. I wonder about the schools that may buy from them.

This is a reply to # 934,714From the first posted alarm about Gov't agencies banning Iodine supplementation, I did my homework, contacted said agencies, and tried (as gently as possible) to refute the claims that individuals would not be able to purchase Iodine supplements. I was shot down, repeatedly, because my concerns were construed as personal attacks against JCrows who occasionally provided valuable information.
My concerns were not personal - they were rational, reasonable, and based upon observation, research, and common sense. "The sky is falling" is the oldest marketing ploy in the book and, if people take the time to look, those posts began a little over 4 months ago when the Iodine Supplementation Discussion Forum was in its infancy.
Hopefully, we've all learned a valuable lesson about panic, misinformation, and marketing.- Re: OFF TOPIC - Already knew this trapper/kcmo

This is a reply to # 934,828Yeppers, and we've only our SELVES to blame for this. My dad (rest his soul) warned me about this back in the early 1980's saying that I should look to leave this country at the earliest opportunity. I was appalled. My father was one of the youngest men to ever graduate the US Naval Academy, served his country for over 25 years, was extremely patriotic, was a staunch conservative, and successful businessman. NOT that any of these are laudible attributes, but I couldn't believe that he was telling me to leave the country. When I asked him why, he said (and, I remember this quote like it was yesterday), "When the government begins wasting time trying to save us from our selves {{supplement sales, etc.}}, laws will be passed that will intrude upon every aspect of your life. Get out while you're young."
I have grown into a suspicious human being with regard to regulations, rules, etc. You want to talk about a cult? The cult of our current society is one of the most frightening ones that we're involved in!
