I and many others would disagree with Jarvis on that one. The differences in ionic radii and reactivity of the halogens mean that it is not all about atomic weight. Fluoride is a small, hard cation that is unique among all elemets in that it is capable of hydrogen bonding, whereas Iodide is a very large polarizable anion. Jarvis, like most, is not correct on everything and probably borrowed the notion of displacement from that occurring in nuclelphyllic substitution reactions described by organic chemists of the time, and by extension he applied it to the human body. But it's not that simple. Jarvis isn't mentioned or referenced in modern texts nor by the Iodine project for good reason. Much of what he wrote was baseless conjecture. Some of it turned out to be true. Take a dartboard and put twenty stock symbols on it and throw ten darts, write them down, and see how you do after 20 years.

I also think it is a very legitimate question, and one that is yet to be sufficiently answered. I don't believe that everyone breathing is toxic. If that is true, then what is the point. No matter how much detoxing you do, you will never be "clean" as long as you are still alive.

There must a point at which you achieve your goals, or what the heck are we all working towards.

When I was a kid we use to ride our bikes everywhere including traffic where we breathed in leaded gasoline fumes, everyday.Its just organic lead.

Every other summer night we road those same bikes behind the city's truck that fogged mosquitoes, we just followed in around, because nobody said it was bad its just DDT.

My grandfather had an iceplant that used ammonia, I use to work weekends in the icehouse beginning at 8 or 9 yr old. OHSA didn't come measure the PEL and tell me its OK its just ammonia.

I painted Chain link fences all summer using AL paint, me & my buddy made $1.50/hr and the city workers gave us leaded gas to clean-up with every night. No problem, just don't smoke.

I went to all kinds of training and off to Cambodia for 2 tours more shots both times. Lived off the land for 20 of 24, ate things you would even feed your worst enemy. It was protein and it kept us alive. The stuff sprayed to kill weeds and trees what was it called oh yea AGENT ORANGE didn't it get sprayed in our area of operation yea but that was a few years ago, don't worry LT it can't hurt you and your men now. After getting our skin burned a few time after crawling around we learned about chemical half life the hard way.

After each tour we were dewormed, spent 5-7 days swallowing pills and having our poop analylzed. Your clean now Marine, how do you know ? Don't worry the doc says your ok.

Went to work in the Chemical Processing business, was in charge of worker safety. Learned everything I could about the stuff we where working with, transfered that knowledge to the guys working in plant. I wanted everybody to go home everyday in the same shape they can in. I believed all the stuff I read from the Govt and Industry sources, but they lied. A few of those guys died because of the dioxins they absorbed.

Not to mentioned I grew up drinking chlorinated water,for the first 50 years of my life, did my own swimming pool maintanence, using good old chlorine.

Did I mention Floride Toothpaste and Florodated Vitamens for the kids? There approved by the Govt right they must be OK.
