I don't recommend that. Like said before on here, with all the new people fasting after the holidays they should do it as written the first time. I remember last year a lot of people were messing around with the maple syrup, some licking the spoon clean, some eating it right off the spoon for extra "energy" and because they grew to like the taste, others were mixing it with the tea. People with eating disorders or who have a problem binge eating, would "treat" themselves with a spoonful of maple syrup like it was a spoonful of chocolate frosting.
Some people; (I think especially people who are blood sugar sensitive) were having problems with it where it was promoting cravings and hunger. For some scientific reason the maple syrup mixed with the lemon and cayenne doesn't have that effect.
So if you're going to try that and notice cravings or whatever, that's probably the reason.
