My guess is it is better taken with food. Tropical traditions say that coconut oil should be taken with either protein or fibre, because thats how it occurs in nature - i.e. as part of a coconut.
Also Shelley is big on taking protein and oils together.
So my advice would be to at least take them (flax & CO) as part of a protein shake or something. Thats how I take mine.
