Well, I have studied the bible, not in its entirety, but enough to get a good "idea". In the bible it says, thou shall not kill. Yet, when God was leading his people to the promise land did they not kill? It almost seems hypocritical. Why kill, and then preach that it is wrong? This one bothers me. Another burning question is how we have so many different races of people. If we all started with Adam and Eve how then do we have black, white, and everything in between? What were the dinosaurs? There is no mention of them in the bible. We go from creating the earth to Adam and Eve. While my beliefs in Christianity are strong, I can't help but question these things. I have more questions but I will start with these. I welcome your thoughts and opinions.

This is a reply to # 437,773Hi there.To start with,that was written in Hebrew and the word was murder.There is a huge differance between murder and killing to protect yourselfe and family and property.And u'r next question.Adam and Ev were to REplenish the earth.It is hard to find but there was life here before Adam and Ev and it was Wicked and God destroyed it with the ice age,the dinos among that era.God tells us in our bible what we need to know to live in the world now.It can seem confusing,I know it can.Get a good concordance and Hebrew and Greek lexicon and you can take the words back to their origioal meaning and you'll see the differeance between the translations.I think that will explain it all to you.It does require a lot of study and I know longer have mine and no money to buy them right now and have to draw on memory what I can.But your questions are valid and not hard to answer if you'll just do this and study.I just don't have the resourses now to really fill u in.Just don't fret yourself that it doesn't all fall into a certain pattern that our finite minds can't understand{bad spelling a lot,I'm tired}.I know it does seem to contradict,but it really doesn't.One must go back to the Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek.Love,Dot.

This is a reply to # 437,776Who then created the dinosaurs. If we are to believe that God created the Earth and the Heavens then aren't we to assume that all life, whether wicked or not started with God. The commandment says, thou shall not kill. It doesn't say thou shall not kill unless....that would leave the door open to all sorts of circumstances. Jesus says, if someone steals your property, do not ask for it back. Why then did they ask, and kill to get back the promise land? Why do the words contradict themselves? Give back or we shall take any means neccessary to get what is rightfully ours?
This question is purely opinion based. Where is life before we are born. What I mean is where was I before I was concieved. Was it a black abyss, nothing, why me? Where are my children that are yet to be born? Are we spirits that are sent back for another mission, so to speak?

This is a reply to # 437,796These are my ideas I am tossing round here, dont take them as gospel if you disagree. I have always believed that dinosaurs and everything else including man were made by God in six days. For some reason they didnt get into the ark to be saved from flood.
As far as killing goes, God may have commanded no killing but that doesnt mean man obeyed him.
Life before we are born..... you only have to be somewhere before you are born if you believe in reincarnation, Christians dont believe this so..... As for where we go after, God says the dead know nothing, the body decays, we await the second coming of Christ for the Resurection.- To Ray bevpirt

This is a reply to # 437,801Very thoughtful re: the dinosaurs. I have heard some folks suggest that the animals brought onto the ark were not necessarily adults, so that would give the ark more room to store animals. Also, after the flood, there was so little vegetation that the dinosaurs brought onto the ark might have perished from lack of food, since they needed more to eat if they were truly larger. After the flood is where we find the first time that God permits man to consume animal flesh, even though most of the world was probably eating it long before the flood, and suffering the consequences as a result. After the flood, you see man's lifespan steadily decreasing in several generations.

This is a reply to # 437,773Dinosaurs: Reading through the old testament you will read of creatures that were huge and dinosaur like - that is what I believe dinosaurs were. I will post scripture later, as I find it a little late to go into detail right now. In the meantime check out www.drdino.com
Yes, thou shalt not kill - is a very plain and simple commandment. However, like any rule there is an exception. I'm pretty sure if our lives were in danger, and we needed to protect ourselves or someone else, the use self defence is okay, that might mean killing someone - but tell me where God says to let ourselves be killed? Or don't protect your family or fellow man? But by all means, don't kill in cold blooded murder - that would be very wrong.
As for the human race, here is my understanding: Adam and Eve were the first humans, read all the geneology in Genisis, and throughout the old testament. Remember after Adam and eve and later on, God wiped out every living thing on the earth (aside from Noah and family and two of every animal?) It sort of started all over again right? There is more geneology to read (it is boring and not a good idea to read that geneology if you are tired) But if you read your old testament word for word, ask God to help you understand, you will gain a greater understanding. As for different skin colour and race, I feel that different climate a bigger world population can cause all sorts of different races. For example, how would my son have blonde hair when my husband and I both have dark features? Because each individual has very different genes that have been passed on to him or her through their parents, grandparents, etc. No matter what we are God's Creation and He loves us and sent his only Son to die for the sins of the world, for you and me. So that we could be saved by grace through Jesus Christ!
I also try not to worry myself with un answered questions like that, because really aside from asking God for divne revelation all you will get are opinions like I just gave. But, whenever we get to heaven I'm sure we will learn a whole lot more, we will be learning for eternity!

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son--Enoch. (Genisis 4:16 & 17) (NKJV)
In that scripture, it doesn't say that Cain met his wife in the land of Nod. It says "Cain knew his wife". In this scripture "knew" means that Cain had sexual relations with his wife, "knew" is used in a few other scriptures to mean, sexual relations. Also in other translations, say for example NIV it says "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch" (pretty self explanatory)
Also, I gather that, as right after it says Cain knew his wife, it states that his wife bore their son, Enoch. Usually before you have a child, you have sex.
So, why would we believe that he met or married his wife in the Land of Nod? He may have married her and taken her with him to the land of Nod.
So, it leads one to believe that perhaps Cain married one of his "sisters".
Remember in those days the people lived directly under God's Law! People also had no choice but to marry their "brother" or "sister". If you look at the bible in context we are all desendants of Adam and Eve and that would make us all brothers and sisters??
Also, if we go back and read Genesis, people at that time (such as Adam) had a VERY long life span. Remember, after Seth was born the bible states that Adam lived another 800 years, altogether Adam lived for 930 years. The bible also states in the same scripture that Adam went on to have other children. If the human life span was around 900 years or so, could you imagine how long the childbearing years would have been for a woman? Imagine how many children Adam could have fathered...there could have been a huge population boom....
Cain could have married anyone of the daughters that Adam fathered...

This is a reply to # 437,786Good question about the different races and colours, I have always belived this came about after the Tower of Babel when the Lord scattered the people for disobeying Him. In almost every culture, written or oral history around the world there is a story of a great flood way back in time. The different colours probably came from adapting to climate changes.
On the subject of who Cain married I have always thought the same as Ev, that it was one of his sisters.
The Bible can only be understood completely if you also have knowledge of language usage etc from those times but I do think if we ask God's guidance before we study He will open our eyes to understanding.

This is a reply to # 437,787I believe there were people in the land of Nod. It wasn't too long after Cain went to the land of Nod, banished from the Garden of Eden, where he met his wife. It sure helps explain a lot when just a few hundred years later God has to wipe out an earth which is heavily populated by the nephilim. If you buy the party line about the Creation Story, nothing else will make sense. Adam and Eve were God's creation...the rest of the world had already been created. God's time is not our time....that will also help.

... and probably did. perhaps this sparked enmity between cain and abel, because jealousy may have been provoked not only by the sacrifices of cain and abel, but in a woman as well. pure speculation i know, but in 'the forgotten books of the bible', in the chapters of adam and eve, this is exactly the case.

In the Old Testament Jesus had not come to earth yet to reconcile man with God. He did in the New Testament, so in the New Testament there is no mention of God wanting someone to be killed.
Jesus came so we could have God's approval, but also so that at the end of one's life he/she will be judged. God does want to punish, but He gave man more chances by sending Jesus.
Anyway, that is how I see it. I hope it helps/makes sense.

This is a reply to # 437,773I'll only add,and am not saying I follow this theroy or anything,that Adam and Eve were the represivatives for others.His word basicley tells us what we need to know to live in the here and now on this earth and does it really matter that much anyway?As long as you know in whom you have believed?If the dinos{for example}were suppose to be on the ARk they would have been.There was a form of life here before Adam that was destroyed in the ice age.Next was by water and the next will be by fire.Get out your concordance and lexicons and take the words back to there origional meanings and there will be no confusion.Killing and MURDER are different.God said"he that wields the sword does not do so in vain,but he is a minister of God to execute judgement on evildoers.Jesus said",if my kingdome was of this world then would my servants fight".But they could not so the prophecy could be fullfilled.One question.Do you think Jesus would want you to just sit there and tell an intruder with a gun"go ahead and kill my family,I love you.?Or should you fight to save their lives?The Hebrew says murder and there is a big difference between that and killing in time of war or to protect your family.My son is in the airforce fighting for freedom and my husbands grandaughter in the army and a grandson.His are over seas right now and we are very proud of them and pray for them.Listen to some of your prophetic preachers such as Hilton Sutton,Jack VanImpe.Hal Linsdy and others and see if they have a problem with it.You will find they don't.Get deep into the WHOLE bible.Don't just take some and not try to understand how they both work together.Love,Dot.
