InCharge
I have a "Water Wise 4000" that I have used for the last 6 or so months. I have been satisfied with it although I question the statement in the link that I will provide that it is sufficient for 4 people.
I live alone, but do use distilled water for a number of things that some others might not be doing like diluting 35% H202 to 3% H202, etc, but I don't think that would equal the water needs of 3 other people. It seems like I am continually cleaning and filling the machine just for my needs.
The cleaning is pretty simple. I let it cool, then pour a little white vinegar (maybe 1/8th cup or less) into the bottom where all the junk collects and let it set for 5 or 10 minutes. Wipe it out with a paper towell, and rinse. This is probably overkill, but then I spray H202 from a household sprayer into it and rinse again.
Fill it with water, turn it on and forget it as it turns off automatically. It also needs the charcoal afterfilter changed every 3 months. I usally don't let it go that long, and if you let it set for a while without using it you should change the filter before you use it again as mold can form in the filter.
As you can see in the link it's about twice the size of a coffee maker. It does produce some heat from the fan at the top that blows out any gases that might be presence from whatever it burns off. Not a problem in the winter, and I put it on my deck outside in the summer. Of course you have to protect it from the rain etc. if you do this.
Overall I think it's a good unit, and the link has a pretty good price with the advertised discount as some want the full $299 dollars. I didn't buy mine there, but I paid the same only the place where I bot quit selling them.
The water in my area (Denver) seemed like it was pretty decent compared to other areas that I have been to and yet I was amazed at what is left behind after the distilling cycle.
